The use of lasers in medical sciences, both in research and clinical applications, is rapidly growing. Over the past few decades, efficient low-level laser-based therapies have emerged. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a non-invasive and non-thermal therapy used for many medical purposes, such as tissue repair and reduction of edema, inflammation, pain, etc. This study aimed to investigate the mechanism of action and therapeutic applications of low-level laser with different parameters on reducing inflammation in various diseases through diminishing the expression of inflammatory genes, changing the phenotype of macrophages, and reducing oxidative stress.
 In this study, using various databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Science Direct, and Google Scholar, we investigated a comprehensive search on related articles published from  1995 to 2022 and reported the application of low-level laser with different parameters on a variety of cells involved in inflammatory diseases.
Low-level laser therapy with different power and wavelengths has diverse effects on gene expression and cellular processes that lead to various therapeutic effects. In most cases, red and infrared lasers have more favourable effects on diminishing inflammation and wound healing, while blue and green lasers have more inhibitory effects on cellular proliferation.
